Service and Advocacy

It is all about service and in keeping with Zonta’s mission, the Zonta Club of Columbia provides the following service to the Midlands community:

“Enhancing Your Assets”

Enhancing Your Assets is a series of presentations provided to transitional housing programs for women in the Columbia area. Programs range from financial literacy, women’s health, legal issues and coping while in recovery from drug and alcohol dependency.

Zonta partners with Killingsworth and The Women’s Shelter by providing financial support and programmatic assistance as requested.

Zonta member, Erin Long, poses with her sister at the annual Killingworth Gala. Erin represented Zonta as our model.

Human Trafficking

The Zonta Club of Columbia works in partnership with other advocacy organizations, law enforcement and victims’ rights groups to push for legislation to address the problems of human trafficking. Club members serve on various task forces, present testimony to local and state government committees and provide services (as requested) for victims of human trafficking.

International Service

As part of our affiliation with Zonta International, the Columbia club participates in service projects to help women in developing countries improve their legal, political, economic, educational and health status. Currently we are working in Liberia in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund to provide support to women who have undergone unsuccessful fistula repair surgeries and women with fistulae that cannot be surgically repaired. Additionally, we are working on a project related to the Elimination of New Pediatric HIV Infection and Prevention and Response to Survivors of Domestic and Gender Based Violence in Rwanda.
